I'm sitting in northern Michigan in a "cabin". It has more comfort creatures than my home does. I am with a friend installing an alarm system and additional items to make it a "smart" home. I helped to pull wire, set up the thermostat, well I held it while he pulled the wires to the front and screwed it into the wall and mainly kept him in coffee.
You ask why I am in northern Michigan and not my home. In December 2014, I was given a new sentence - and not one I wanted. I have an autoimmune disease called lichen planus. It is not a common disease and caused all kinds of crap to go wrong with my body. I was told I had scar tissue in my left eye from the disease - enough to make me have to go back on immune suppressors. If I do nothing - I go blind.
December 23rd I went back to Dermatology at the University of Michigan to meet with a different doctor. I had quit taking my meds earlier in 2014 after taking them for nearly 10 months. The drugs created so much havoc for me and I ended up deciding the benefits did not outweigh the problems. My new doctor told me I probably have an even rarer disease and put me on plaquenil - it can cause retinal problems as a side effect. I now have to have weekly blood tests and see the doctor every couple of months. I can no longer be out in public much - since the drugs are trying to shut down my immune system.
Which answers the question - why am I up north? My home area has a huge problem right now with the flu. My spouse works retail and his co-workers are coming to work sick. So our solution was for me to stay with a friend - as long as he can put up with me.
Our arrangements are simple - I bring in groceries and make him awesome meals. Well, I hope they are awesome. He doesn't complain and tells me I am a way better cook than his soon to be ex-wife.
I have to quit blogging and figure out what to make for dinner. I know - Leftovers!!
